The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Industry Awards at RAPID+TCT 2024 in Los Angeles recognized notable leaders who have applied AM technology to production and made a significant impact in its commercialization. Here’s a detailed look at the winners and runners-up.

AM Industry Achievement Award 

Recipient:

Paul Gradl, Principal Engineer at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center

Gradl was honored for his role in advancing aerospace engineering and manufacturing. His contributions include significant work in liquid rocket engine development, with over 20 research projects, 130 publications, and five U.S. patents. Gradl is also a dedicated mentor and STEM advocate. 

Aubin Case Study Award 

AM Case Study Winner: Advanced Engineering Solutions

Recipients:

Andreas Vlahinos, PhD, Jose Coronado, Michael Reitman, Ronen Ben Horin, Dadia Solomon, PhD, and Eran Golden of Advanced Engineering Solutions

The team was recognized for their innovative case study on a personalized femur implant for a bone cancer patient. The implant, designed using DICOM data and laser power bed fusion technology, highlighted AM’s ability to deliver tailored medical solutions swiftly and cost-effectively.

Digital Manufacturing Challenge 

The 2024 DMC Challenge encouraged future engineers to develop innovative solutions for social sustainability challenges. Social sustainability aims to enhance well-being, promote equity, and uphold human rights over time. As a key pillar of sustainability, it addresses issues like quality of life, education, accessibility, and health with impressive entries across various educational levels:

These projects covered vital topics including food security, community health, and educational accessibility. They illustrated how AM can be leveraged to solve global problems, enhance public welfare, and foster a more sustainable future.

This award is designed to showcase young companies that have developed a new AM technology or application that solves an existing problem or utilizes a unique approach.

Onulis for its innovative solutions and technology that solves critical gaps in the AM workflow

AM Pitch Fest Competition 

This award recognizes innovations in the application of AM technologies. The award recognizes outstanding use cases of AM adoption and implementation and provides inspiration to others in their journey of AM application.

3D Solar for its groundbreaking ideas in integrating AM with solar technology to advance the efficiency and accessibility of the energy

Toolkit 3D

AM Production Club

Fabrisonic at the 50K level and Vivid Creative Aquatics at the 10K level are the newest members of the AM Production Club, which recognizes manufacturers of parts and products that have produced a certain number of parts in a calendar year using AM.
