David Dornfeld Manufacturing Vision Award Past Winners To encourage truly visionary concepts of research and education, top presentations at SME's North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) will receive the NAMRI/SME Dornfeld Manufacturing Vision Award, named in honor of the late David Dornfeld, PhD, FSME, to recognize outstanding vision and leadership within the manufacturing community.
Awards These 14 Geoffrey Boothroyd Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers, age 35 or younger, are being recognized for their exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the manufacturing industry. Each year, the award is named in honor of a specific individual who has made lifelong contributions to manufacturing and SME. The 2021 award namesake is University of Massachusetts Professor Geoffrey Boothroyd, PhD, FSME, and founder of Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc. Boothroyd and his colleagues began research on what would become the basis for the design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) methodology, "which has dramatically reduced costs, improved product quality and enhanced the competitiveness of major U.S. manufacturers."
SME Education Award The SME Education Award honors the educator most respected for the development of manufacturing-related curricula, fostering sound training methods or inspiring students to enter the profession of manufacturing.
SME Gold Medal The SME Gold Medal recognizes outstanding service to the manufacturing engineering profession in technical communications through published literature, technical writings or lectures.
Honorary Membership Honorary Membership may be conferred upon an individual of recognized ability and stature who has, by voluntary action, contributed their substantial skills and talent to accomplish the goals of SME.
NAMRI/SME S.M. Wu Research Implementation Award This award recognizes individuals for outstanding original research, which, when implemented, has had a significant commercial and/or societal impact.
Awards These 22 Sandra Bouckley Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers, age 35 or younger, are being recognized for their exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the manufacturing industry. Each year, the award is named in honor of a specific individual who has made lifelong contributions to manufacturing and SME. The 2022 award namesake is 2017 SME President Sandra L. Bouckley, FSME, P.Eng., former SME CEO and a previous vice president of manufacturing systems, supply chain management and lean at GKN Driveline Americas.
