The 2021 award namesake is University of Massachusetts Professor Geoffrey Boothroyd, PhD, FSME, and founder of Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc. Boothroyd and his colleagues began research on what would become the basis for the design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) methodology, "which has dramatically reduced costs, improved product quality and enhanced the competitiveness of major U.S. manufacturers."
