The 2017 Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show (CMTS), being held during the ongoing observance of Canada’s sesquicentennial, will welcome attendees to a new world of manufacturing innovation and opportunity. CMTS, produced by SME, returns to The International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Sept. 25-28.

WESTEC, a manufacturing forum presenting the latest in advanced manufacturing technology including precision machining, additive manufacturing and 3D printing, software and digital technologies, advanced materials, tooling and more returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center Sept. 12-14.

SME — an organization dedicated to developing the future manufacturing workforce — has announced its 2018 Digital Manufacturing Challenge. Now in its tenth year, this annual student competition, sponsored by SME’s Direct Digital Manufacturing Tech Group, seeks innovative automotive aftermarket parts, chemicals, equipment and accessories designs that integrate and implement the best of digital design, additive and subtractive tools/technologies.

Starting in 1986, SME has honored key and notable contributors to the technical and educational progress and advancement of manufacturing by elevating them to the SME College of Fellows.

A powerful lineup of speakers, including Discovery Channel’s Richard Rawlings and Pixar’s Matthew Luhn, are on tap to deliver keynote presentations at FABTECH 2017, North America’s largest metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing event.

SME’s Advanced Manufacturing Media has introduced 30 of the brightest young minds in manufacturing, engineering and research in its fifth-annual "30 Under 30" section in the July Manufacturing Engineering magazine. 30 Under 30 celebrates young men and women, nominated by educators, managers and enterprise owners from around the U.S., for their exceptional accomplishments – notably and remarkably achieved by each before the age of 30.

Amanda Rosenblatt, marketing coordinator for Shop Floor Automations in La Mesa, California, and her friend, Greg Cross, won Smart Manufacturing magazine’s first talent contest.
