Recertification Keeping the credentials you worked hard for is just as important as earning them. To ensure you stay on top of the latest advances, and maintain a strong competitive edge, you must recertify every three years to maintain your Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT) and/or Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE) standing. Recertification requires that you participate in ongoing training and development activities. You will need to document 36 recertification credits during the three-year period from receiving your certification or last recertification. While the CEI certification is no longer available to new candidates, those currently CEI certified may recertify by documenting the same recertification activities as required for CMfgT and CMfgE. Recertification Activities Your continuing education, training, and development must be focused on the Body of Knowledge (PDF). You can earn your recertification credits through activities such as authorship, education, leadership, attendance, and project work. Recertification Credits and Requirements (PDF) How to Add Recertification Activity (PDF) If you hold multiple technical certifications, the same credits can be used toward recertification as long as the activity falls within the three-year certification period. You need 36 credits total to recertify multiple credentials. For example, you earned your CMfgT certification on 1/1/2012 and your CMfgE certification on 6/1/2012. Recertification for your CMfgT is on 1/1/2015 and your CMfgE is on 6/1/2015. You may apply your training and development activities between 6/1/2012-1/1/2015 toward recertifying both credentials. If you are renewing multiple certifications, you will receive an email notification for each certification that is expiring. Life Certification If you are a current CMfgT and/or CMfgE certification holder, and your date of birth is on your SME account, you will become life certified following your 60th birthday.
